This superb 1954 Jazz at the Philharmonic concert poster celebrates one of Norman Granz’s remarkable touring jazz lineups.

Featured performers include Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown, Buddy Rich, Ben Webster, Roy Eldridge, Louis Bellson, Buddy DeFranco, Flip Phillips, Herb Ellis and Bill Harris.

The design appeared in the September 22, 1954 edition of Down Beat and carries the headline “The First and Still the Greatest!” Individual portraits of the musicians are combined with an illustrated trumpet player, sweeping red banner and bold mid-century typography.

The lower portion lists tour destinations across the United States and Canada, creating a fascinating record of the scale of the Jazz at the Philharmonic touring shows.

Its classic red, black and cream design makes this an excellent display piece for a music room, record collection, home bar, office or jazz-inspired interior.
