Pony Express 1861 Advertising Poster Wells Fargo Vintage Western Broadside

1861 Pony Express Poster – 10 Days to San Francisco Historic Advertisement

This remarkable Pony Express advertising poster reproduces a historic broadside dated July 1, 1861, announcing revised departure times and reduced postage rates for the legendary American express mail service.

Prominently displaying the headline “Pony Express!” and the remarkable promise of “10 Days to San Francisco!”, the advertisement provides a fascinating glimpse into long-distance communication during the American frontier era.

Issued with Wells, Fargo & Co. named as agents, the broadside details letter collection arrangements at 84 Broadway, New York, connections with Pony Express departures from St. Joseph, Missouri, and express charges of one dollar for letters weighing half an ounce or less.

A small illustration of a galloping horse and rider carrying a news banner adds character to the composition, while bold Victorian typography, decorative borders and an aged parchment background recreate the appearance of nineteenth-century printed advertising.

The Pony Express operated between April 1860 and October 1861, becoming one of the most celebrated services in American postal history before the completion of the transcontinental telegraph brought its short existence to an end.

This historic advertising print makes an excellent decorative addition to studies, libraries, offices, Western-themed interiors, traditional homes and collections of American frontier memorabilia.

A distinctive piece of Old West history, combining authentic period typography, postal heritage and the enduring legend of the Pony Express.
