The film is set in 18th-century China during the Qing dynasty, the story revolves around Liu Yu-de, portrayed by Gordon Liu, who seeks revenge against the oppressive Manchu government after his family is brutally attacked. Seeking refuge in the legendary Shaolin Temple, Liu undergoes rigorous training, progressing through the temple’s 35 chambers to master various martial arts disciplines.
Renamed San Te, Liu established the 36th chamber to impart his knowledge to others.
