About The Yardbirds
The Yardbirds, formed in 1963 in London, are a seminal British rock band that played a pivotal role in shaping the evolution of rock music. Known for their innovative sound and lineup changes, the band acted as a launchpad for several legendary guitarists who went on to achieve great success.
The Yardbirds initially gained attention for their blues-infused rock, influencing the British Invasion and later genres like psychedelia and hard rock. Notably, Eric Clapton, a founding member, brought his virtuosity to the group before departing in 1965. Jeff Beck succeeded him, adding a more experimental edge to their music.
In 1966, a young Jimmy Page joined the band, initially as a bassist but later shifting to guitar. Under his guidance, the Yardbirds delved into heavier sounds. However, the band’s disbandment in 1968 led Page to form Led Zeppelin, one of rock’s most iconic groups.
The Yardbirds’ hits like “For Your Love,” “Heart Full of Soul,” and “Shapes of Things” showcased their distinctive approach. While their existence was relatively short, their influence was monumental. Their ever-changing roster of guitar virtuosos left an indelible mark on the rock landscape, influencing countless bands and genres.
